Master Craftsmen Series
The Master Craftsmen of Newport© series is the
collaborative work of historian Michael Moses, author of Master Craftsmen of
Newport: the Townsends and Goddards, and furnituremaker Jeffrey Greene. The design of
each draws upon the documented works of the legendary Newport cabinetmakers to
create examples of previously unknown pieces. For
example, while there is no known example of of a corner chair by John Townsend,
there are enough authenticated examples of his work to allow us to create a
corner chair as Townsend would have. This allows one to fill in some blanks
in Newport furniture history.
Each of these pieces is also shown with
other furniture of the same form on the photo pages.
